 Since early 19th century, Bangkok was designated as "Venice of the East". Chao Phraya River (the river of kings) and its canals in the city and suburbs offer beautiful scenes.
Chao Phraya River is a major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial river plain marking the mainland of the country.

On Convent Rd. is St. Joseph Convent School, built in 1907 by French-speaking Catholic priests. Opposite the school was a dark nunnery behind whose walls were Catholic nuns practicing incommunicado.
The residential quarter and church building were well hidden. The nunnery residents detached themselves from the world and observed strict codes of chastity and meditation for the rest of their life. The outside world was not to disturb them.
At the end of this street are the Bangkok Nursing Home, a former convalescence home for European patients, and Christ Church , built in the Fifth Reign.
